Trusting the Goodness of God- Psalms 34:8

 


There is a lot going on in today's world that can distract you from God's goodness. People can be so consumed by one bad thing going on, that they forget the hundreds of other things in their lives that are going right. God is faithful, and good to those who put their trust in Him. Just because we are Christians, doesn't mean hard times won't come. But what sets us apart from those who don't believe, is that we know there is a help to our troubles. A comforter in times of distress, peace in times of chaos. And an advocate who prays for us always. 

I have tasted God's goodness and His love, and God is a good Father. A Father who knows us personally, who sent a Son for us to teach and pray for us, and a Spirit who lives and dwells in His people. In times of adversity, it is important that you have a strong foundation of faith. And in the teachings of C.S. Lewis (which is of course, biblically based), that I have recently read, true faith is steadfast belief in spite of our changing emotions and feelings. Things happen, life happens, things in the world happen that should be impossible to overcome. But as scripture says in John 16:33, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

God is Good in Times of Need

God is good, all the time. And all the time, God is good. Today, I went through a mini crisis at school. The city in which I abide in for college underwent a "Boil Water" advisory. I called my mother and immediately she put out the word, and today I saw the full extent of the support system in my corner. I wouldn't have had this if it weren't for the Lord and His goodness. He keeps showing me that He is good, and faithful even when I am not. As the scripture says, "...Blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him." And I am truly blessed, and truly favored.

We are God's Creation

  I went to a masterclass today. It was a group of talented students and an increasingly talented professor, and she was coaching the students in singing Negro spirituals. As I sat there listening to her, and its important to note she was also a woman of God, I was taken aback. God has created so many of His people with gifts and talents. Some who can sing, some who can draw, who act, make clothes, and a plethora of other things. And as I sat there listening to all the young, talented singers, I was in awe of God's creations. And thankful, that God allows us to speak to Him, to ask Him questions, to give Him our sorrows, and He turns those sorrows into something new. God is the ultimate creator, and He can do more than we can think or imagine once we put ourselves into His hands, and go after His heart.

My Journey to Veiling

 For a long time, I have felt a pull. As a child I would have, as my mom would call them, "phases." Sometimes, I didn't want to wear anything but skirts and dresses, covering nearly every inch of my skin, or I would want to keep my head covered. Things like this that happened so consistently over the years, and in a pattern. But, some insecurity or another would cause me to drop my phases. It wasn't until I got to college that I understood what my calling was.  I personally believe that every Christian has their own walk with God, and what one does to get closer to Him, the other might not need to do. I had always been deeply uncomfortable if I wore something that I felt was too revealing, or too form fitting. And it didn't necessarily stem from insecurity of my own body, but a feeling of being immodest.
